Description
The Aurora Alcantarea is a stunning centerpiece for any garden, reaching a mature size of up to 1.5 meters in diameter and 50 cm in height. Its lush, moss-green leaves are beautifully highlighted by cream-to-yellow margins that become delicately edged in a vibrant red when exposed to strong light. The foliage may also exhibit pale silver cross-banding, adding to its visual intrigue. This variety is particularly noted for the red flush at the base of its pups, as well as the scurfed texture on the reverse of its leaves. An impressive feature of this plant is its erect inflorescence, which can extend up to 2.5 meters tall, presenting a striking variegated form reminiscent of Alcantarea glaziouana. Originally acquired by the esteemed horticulturist Chester Skotak from Brazil and brought to Costa Rica, its exact origins remain a tantalizing mystery. The Aurora Alcantarea was named and popularized in Australia by the Olive Branch Nursery in Brisbane and has been officially registered since November 2015 by Olive Trevor. This Brazilian native is a hardy and exquisite specimen that promises to bring a tropical flair and a touch of exotic beauty to your collection.
