Description
Alcantarea ‘Faery Dust’ is a majestic bromeliad with a commanding presence, featuring a large mature rosette that stretches to over one meter in diameter. This Brazilian native is a symphony of silvery blue-green hues, with leaves that arch gracefully, sometimes weeping, creating an elegant silhouette. The distinctive white crossbands are a hallmark of this variety, particularly pronounced on the reverse and in the juvenile phase of the plant. As ‘Faery Dust’ matures, the heavy scurf that adorns its leaves can begin to ‘dust’ the ground beneath, lending to its ethereal name. Wild-collected in its homeland and introduced to U.S. horticulture by the esteemed Chester Skotak, this Alcantarea is celebrated for its unique silver form, distinct from other cultivars in cultivation. Registered in May 2012 by P. Tristram, ‘Faery Dust’ offers a touch of enchantment and a dusting of horticultural magic to any collection.
